- Full-time, continuing
- Based at our La Trobe Bundoora Campus
- Teaching focussed position
About the position
The Department of Languages and Cultures is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Linguistics (Teaching Focussed). Linguistics is taught as a core component of the Bachelor of Languages and Linguistics and in the Linguistics major within the BA. As part of a large-scale curriculum reform program the Linguistics discipline will be fundamentally redesigned. The new curriculum will drive much stronger student engagement through the degree and major and focus on practice-oriented and career outcome dimensions of linguistics. We aim to link the teaching program much more closely to cognate areas in Allied Health and Education disciplines. Candidates with teaching and research interests that align with this new approach are sought and those with expertise and experiences related to languages in Australia and Asia are particularly welcome.
The School of Humanities and Social Sciences has an international reputation for the quality of its teaching and research programs. It is guided by the core values identified by the University in the operation of its research, scholarship, teaching and organisational practices. Linguistics is a research strength at La Trobe and attracts a strong cohort of students at both undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department of Languages and Cultures is the largest of the four departments in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. It has a strong research culture, achieves consistently high student satisfaction and delivers subjects in a range of modes, including in-person, online and hybrid teaching models.
A Level B teaching focused academic is expected to develop curriculum, teach and undertake scholarship of learning and teaching in relation to the pedagogy in their discipline or professional field.
