About the position

The Animal Technician will perform duties encompassing animal husbandry, monitoring and providing technical support according to documented standard operating procedures, work instructions and AEC/IBC approvals. The Animal Technician will have a high level of skill and capability in routine activities of the facility and deliver a consistently high standard of technical support and animal care supported by Senior team members as required.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • Diploma of Animal Technology or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant workplace experience in animal research facilities.
  • Skills and experience with a variety of animals used in research and teaching, demonstrating sound knowledge of animal husbandry, breeding, health and welfare monitoring, and technical procedures. Experience with genetically modified rodent colonies is essential; experience working with zebrafish will be highly regarded.

The University’s Health and Safety Procedure – COVID-19 Vaccination and Other Measures requires staff engaged to perform work onsite at La Trobe University to be Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they are exempt from being vaccinated due to a recognised medical contraindication.  This position will require the incumbent to work onsite.  As such, an offer of employment will be conditional upon the applicant being Fully Vaccinated against COVID-19 or medically exempt from receiving a COVID-19 vaccination, and providing satisfactory evidence of their vaccination or exemption status to the University.
