About the position

The Academic Skills Advisor- Equity Project is a fixed-term, project-based role within the Library Learning Services (LLS) team, created to support a strategic initiative aimed at improving academic outcomes for equity cohorts. This three-year position is funded through targeted project funding and is designed to complement existing Academic Skills Advisor roles while focusing on sustainable, embedded support for students identified as being at higher risk of academic disadvantage.

Working collaboratively across campuses and disciplines, the ASA- Equity Project will contribute to the development and delivery of inclusive academic literacy programs. A key focus of this role is the co-design of subject-specific learning resources and interventions in partnership with Subject Coordinators and Subject Support Tutors, ensuring that Library resources are directly aligned with the needs of priority student cohorts.

The ASA- Equity Project will work closely with the Subject Support Tutor Program Coordinator and under the guidance of the Senior Coordinator, Library Learning Services, to:

• Identify and engage with subjects and cohorts where equity gaps are evident.

• Develop and pilot scalable, embedded academic support resources tailored to discipline specific needs.

• Evaluate the impact of interventions and contribute to reporting and recommendations for future service models.

• Collaborate with Library Learning Services Colleagues, Peer Learning Advisors (PLAs), academic staff, and student support services to ensure a holistic and inclusive approach to student learning.

This role requires strong pedagogical knowledge, experience in academic literacies, and a commitment to equity and inclusion in higher education. It offers an opportunity to shape innovative support models that can be sustained beyond the life of the project.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

• A postgraduate degree with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and training.

• Demonstrated experience in tertiary teaching or advising, with the ability to identify and respond to the learning needs of diverse student cohorts, particularly those from equity backgrounds.

• Strong understanding of the challenges faced by students from underrepresented groups in Australian higher education, and strategies to address these through inclusive learning support.

• Ability to apply evidence-based educational practices to design, implement, and evaluate academic support resources that foster independent learning and academic success.

 • Experience in designing inclusive digital learning resources for LMS environments, with attention to accessibility and equity.

 • Proven ability to deliver academic support in at least one of the following areas: academic writing, mathematics, STEM disciplines, postgraduate/HDR research writing, or other relevant academic literacies.

• Ability to collect and interpret data to evaluate impact, inform continuous improvement, and contribute to strategic reporting.
