About the position

The La Trobe Rural Health School (LRHS) is the largest rural health school in Australia. The LRHS is based at all four regional campuses of the University: Bendigo, Mildura, Shepparton, and Albury-Wodonga. The School has a wide range of health courses including dentistry, oral health, nursing, midwifery, paramedicine, public health, pharmacy, biomedical sciences (onshore and offshore), physiotherapy, social work, speech pathology, exercise physiology, exercise science and occupational therapy.

La Trobe University offers an established Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) course delivered through both the School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport on the Bundoora campus, and the La Trobe Rural Health School on the Bendigo campus, as well as a Master of Speech Pathology Practice on the Bundoora campus. Research areas are within the University’s Research Themes and are supported locally by the Violet Vines Marshman Centre for Rural Health, The John Richards Centre for Rural Ageing Research, The Holsworth Research Initiative and the Holsworth Biomedical Research Initiative.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop, coordinate, and teach a high-quality learning experience that engages students through the conduct of tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or studio sessions and other online and asynchronous activities.
  • Coordinate subjects and/or instances of subjects within the course offerings for speech pathology or related to clinical/industry practice.
  • Implement and evaluate innovative methods to deliver speech pathology-related teaching content to develop entry-level practitioners.
  • Contribute to the promotion and student recruitment activities for the speech pathology course and other courses offered by the LRHS.
  • Provide input to course accreditation requirements and activities, and ensure that teaching complies with accreditation, policy requirements and internal course monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain local, national, and international partnerships and collaborators to facilitate efficient and effective teaching, clinical placements and research related to the discipline of speech pathology.

 

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Postgraduate qualification, such as PhD or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the University and the speech pathology profession.
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching and curriculum development, with experience in paediatric areas and/or multimodal communication highly desirable.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and initiate and follow-up actions, all with minimal or no supervision.
  • Demonstrated clinical/industry experience as a speech pathologist.
  • Clear understanding of the accreditation requirements and skill capabilities of an entry-level speech pathologist
  • Understanding of rural healthcare issues and a passion for rural health and wellbeing would be highly desirable.
  • Ability to use technology to facilitate innovative and engaging presentations of teaching materials and research outcomes.
