About the position
This position falls within the Facilities and Technical Services (FTS) team in Science, supporting the teaching and, where resources allow, research activities for the:
- School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment (SABE) as well as the
- School of Psychology and Public Health (SPPH).
The successful candidate will have responsibility for managing a technical team, provide service to teaching delivery, and will work as part of a larger FTS team that provides a range of technical services and advice to ensure the effective delivery and maintenance of the capability and operation of teaching and research laboratories and facilities. This team works closely with the following disciplines:
- Microbiology
- Anatomy (Wet and Dry)
- Physiology
- Pharmacology
- Psychology
- General Laboratory Support (Washup)
The role manages the day-to-day coordination of laboratory support services (including workforce and workload planning) to ensure that the teaching and research needs of various disciplines and research groups are met efficiently and effectively.
Essential Criteria
Skills and knowledge required for the position
- An undergraduate degree in any area relevant to the position with at least 4 years subsequent experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
- Experience with working in an Anatomy laboratory and familiarity with the Human Tissue Act and its implications for a teaching and research laboratory setting.
- Familiarity with a wide range of scientific equipment and laboratory infrastructure, its use, maintenance and management.
- Demonstrated experience in a laboratory/facilities role.
- Demonstrated experience working in OGTR-certified laboratories/facilities and/or laboratories in an education environment.
