About the position

A full-time or part time, Level A or Level B position is available in the School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport. This position will contribute to the project, “Quality Use of Medicines: Inclusive Conversations for Safer Medicine Use” funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care.

The aim of this project is to develop an online educational resource for pharmacists to improve conversations with people with communication support needs about medicine use. People with communication support needs include people with communication disability or people who have a different language or cultural background from their pharmacist. The successful applicant will conduct focus groups, co-design workshops with pharmacists and people with communication disability and difference and contribute to the design and evaluation of the online educational resource.

They will be supported by a multidisciplinary team including clinicians and researchers from speech pathology, public health, disability and pharmacy, and research partners Western Health and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia.

The School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport comprises three Departments and 10 disciplines across La Trobe’s multi campus operations and has an outstanding reputation for research excellence, research translation and for building strong relationships with industry partners. The successful applicant will be based within the Discipline of Speech pathology, report to Associate Professor Robyn O’Halloran.

The Level A performance expectations of this position include:

  • Establishing effective research partnerships with research partners with support.
  • Meeting selected activity requirements of the grant on time.
  • Preparing the 6 monthly and annual reporting documents, with support.

 The Level B performance expectations of this position include:

  • Establishing effective research partnerships with research partners.
  • Meeting selected activity requirements of the grant on time.
  • Preparing the 6 monthly and annual reporting documents.
  • Participating in the supervision of research higher degree students

 Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

Level A

  • Near completion, or completion of a PhD or equivalent qualifications in pharmacy, speech pathology, or other allied health or public health discipline.
  • Evidence of publications, conference papers and/or reports, or professional or technical contributions which provide evidence of strong research potential.
  • Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team in a cooperative and collegial manner.

Level B

  • Completion of a PhD or equivalent qualifications in pharmacy, speech pathology, or other allied health or public health discipline. 
  • A record of publications, conference papers and/or reports, or professional or technical contributions which provide evidence of strong research potential.
  • Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly both orally and in writing.
  • High level organisational skills: the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, initiate and follow-up actions, all with minimal or no supervision.
  • Qualitative research experience and/or experience in the development of online educational resources for health professionals and/or resources to support people with communication support needs in conversation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with a range of collaborators including industry partners.
