 About the position

Ngura Ninti (‘Knowing Home’) is a project led by Professor Katherine Ellinghaus (La Trobe), Professor Barry Judd (University of Melbourne) and Emeritus Professor Richard Broome (La Trobe).

Together with a large group of Indigenous and non-Indigenous regional editors based at universities and organisations across the country, we are creating a Routledge-contracted, four-volume collection of key documents that will tell the story of Australian history from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective. The project entails consultation with Indigenous communities, archival research and prioritises Indigenous well-being.

 

There are four regional teams:

  • West (broadly, Western Australia)
  • Central (broadly, South Australia and the Northern Territory)
  • South East (broadly, Tasmania, Victoria and lower New South Wales)
  • North East (broadly, Queensland and upper New South Wales)

 

This position is to work with the South East regional team, led by Associate Professors Andrew Peters (Swinburne University) and Rebe Taylor (University of Tasmania) on the history of Lutruwita (Tasmania) from the Palawa (Tasmanian Aboriginal) perspective.

 

 

 Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have;

  • Have, or be working towards, a higher education research qualification or have equivalent qualifications such as Indigenous Knowledges and professional research or consultation experience.
  • Have experience of working successfully with Palawa Community members in formal settings, such as a Tasmanian Aboriginal organisation, a higher education organisation, a gallery, museum, library, archive or another similar context.
  • High level organisational skills, including the ability to work autonomously with direction from team leaders, set priorities, meet deadlines, initiate and follow-up actions, all with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in researching, especially historical research in archives, museums, libraries, and/or galleries.
