The Research Development, Grants and Transformation Team is central to this mission, providing expert guidance on research development and managing the pre-award process for competitive funding opportunities including the Australian Research Council (ARC), National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF), philanthropic bodies and other local and international funding schemes.
We are seeking a Research Development Manager – ARC & Industry Grants to take on a strategic leadership role in advancing La Trobe’s success in major national research funding schemes. This role will focus on supporting competitive grants with the Australian Research Council (ARC) as well as industry-focused initiatives such as Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) and Cooperative Research Centres (CRC).
Working closely with the Director, Research Grants and Transformation and key partners across the University including Business Development Managers within the Industry Engagement Division you will lead the development, coordination and submission of high-quality proposals. You will also play a pivotal role in building institutional capability, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and ensuring alignment with La Trobe’s strategic research priorities.
Duties at this level:
- Lead the development and submission of major ARC, industry and competitive research funding proposals.
- Build and implement pipeline strategies to strengthen ARC and industry-aligned grant success.
- Manage and mentor the grants team to deliver high-quality, timely submissions.
- Collaborate with business development to secure industry and commercial research funding.
Skills and knowledge:
- Postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience in grant development and management, or equivalent expertise.
- Proven success in supporting major competitive funding applications, particularly Category 1 schemes.
- Strong knowledge of Australian research funding programs and major initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a pipeline of proposals from concept through to submission and establishment.
- Well-developed networks with funding bodies and research partners across the sector.
