Summary

We are seeking a Senior Technical Officer to work within the Facilities and Technical Services (FTS) team to support the Prosthetics & Orthotics (P&O) teaching program within the Health Cluster in Bundoora.

About the position

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management (technical support) of the operations of the teaching laboratories, workshops and clinical spaces including stocking spare parts/consumables, equipment maintenance, contractor supervision and operational checks of equipment for safety.

This includes supporting teaching staff in practical classes through training (i.e. train-the-trainer in laboratory/workshop/clinical techniques), equipment troubleshooting and the general management of hazards within the area.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • A Degree with subsequent relevant experience to consolidate the theories and principles learned, or extensive experience, leading to either the development of specialist expertise or to the development of broad knowledge, in technical or administrative fields, or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated depth or breadth of expertise in Prosthetics & Orthotics developed through extensive relevant experience and application.
  • Demonstrated ability to gain a conceptual understanding of relevant policies, procedures or systems and interpretation in the application of policy and/or precedent.
  • Ability to innovate and take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and monitor workflows within own area of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience in the operation and/or maintenance of scientific / workshop machinery, equipment and facilities.
  • Ability to train and assess staff and student competency in the safe and correct use of laboratory / workshop equipment and machinery.
  • Sound understanding of Health & Safety regulations and procedures.
